Advocating and providing supportive services and programs to older adults, to allow them to live with independence, in their own homes, for as long as possible.

The Senior Health Insurance and Information Program (SHIIP) is a program to assist older Nebraskans regarding their health insurance issues. The program operates through the Agency, and is coordinated and directed by the Nebraska Department of Insurance.

The SHIIP program has trained volunteers to provide individuals with accurate, objective information. A SHIIP volunteer can assist persons with: Medicare and Medicaid issues, Medicare Supplemental Insurance, Long-term care insurance, and the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Program. SHIIP volunteers not only provide assistance one on one, volunteers give presentations at Senior Centers, as well as other organizations. Examples of presentation topics include, “The Changes in Medicare,” to “Help with Prescription Drugs.”

SHIIP presentations and counseling sessions are provided as a service. All SHIIP volunteers provide their skills on a volunteer basis, have no vested interest, and assure their clients of completely unbiased assistance. In addition, all counseling sessions are absolutely confidential.
